The S2 6.7 Under Spinnaker
8 7 6 5 4

The S2 6.7 sailboat was the initial boat of the GrandSlam racing series by S2 Yachts.

When S2 Yachts wanted an entry level, high performance sailboat, they turned to Don Wennersten, their naval architect, and Dave Fry, their industrial engineer. S2gave them free reign and a blank sheet of paper.

The design goals for the 6.7 were to make a safe familyboat that would be faster than anything even close to its size and rewarding to race, yet stable enough for family daysailing and roomy enough for overnighting -- but still trailerable. Wennersten and Fry definitely met their objectives. Ergonomically, everything on the 6.7 fits its use well. And even after twenty years, there are almost no 22' boats that can come close to matching it on these criteria.

The Photo at left shows the S2 6.7 reaching under full sail and spinnaker.

The 6.7's cabin accommodates four adults for sleeping or shelter from bad weather. The interior is functional, basic, & low maintenance. Lots of storage room and with easy access to it.  It sails fast in light winds or strong, it's stable sailing with 4 to 5 adults or single-handed. Some sailors who own larger boats, won't part with their 6.7s. Former owners seek 6.7s to buy again. Many experienced sailors call the 6.7, "the best sailing boat I have ever owned."

The 6.7's very honest design compliments its functions well; it does not pretend anything and it mimics nothing -- its beauty is as its beauty does, and that goes clear to the bone. The 6.7 has the sailing characteristics & stability of a keel boat, outstanding speed, room for weekending, in a boat that's also easily trailered, launched and reloaded - a very rare, superb combination !
